Steggles Tastes Investment in Product Innovation

Sydney, Australia, 4 February 2008. One of Australia's leading poultry producers, Bartter-Steggles, has launched a new fresh chicken product designed to capitalise on the growing consumer trend towards pre-prepared fresh meals.

The launch of its chicken enchiladas product, which is currently available through Woolworths, forms part of the company’s strategy to improve consumer choice when purchasing Australia’s most affordable protein.

The news comes following the company’s significant investment in new product development, which last year saw the successful launch of its new frozen range that included its popular Dinosnacks product.

The Chief Executive of Bartter-Steggles, Geoff Frost, said: “The launch of our Steggles branded chicken enchiladas is part of our fresh business strategy to offer consumers choice when purchasing the country’s most affordable protein.”

“Over the last few years our twin strategies of product innovation and business process improvement have seen the business accelerate its rate of growth,” said Mr Frost.

“We are determined to improve consumer choice when it comes to fresh chicken and turkey meat products and we expect to release another 20 products over the next 18 months.”

The Director of Sales at Bartter-Steggles, Mr Rod Hodgins, said: “Consumers are continuing to demand choice at the meat counter and our chicken enchiladas deliver a fresh and convenient product that is suitable for the whole family.”

“When compared to other proteins, chicken is the market leader when it comes to affordability and we are committed to offering consumers new and exciting ways to enjoy Australia’s favourite white meat.”

The chicken enchiladas offer a quick, easy and tasty meal. They come in a two portion tray pack with Mexican salsa mild spiced chicken wrapped in tortilla, garnished with parsley flakes and shredded cheese.

Bartter-Steggles is one of Australia’s leading poultry producers with more than 4500 employees and operations across Australia. It has a 26% market share of the $2.7 billion chicken and turkey meat industry. Further information on the company can be found at www.bartter.com.au.
