One of Steggles national competitors, Ingham, has sold its thoroughbred breeding and racing empire to the ruler of Dubai, Sheik Mohammed bin Rashid al Maktoum. The Sheik is the most influential figure in world breeding and thoroughbred racing today. His successful bid of close to $500 million beat John Singleton and Lloyd Williams offer of $300 million by a couple of lenghts at least. For the full story please visit this link to Crickey:

Bartter's Winning Beginning

Does anyone know the story of how Bartter began? This is a newpaper cutting from the 1950s when Peter Bartter was recognised for his junior farmer project. Amazing to think that a business that started out with 100 chickens under a light bulb today processes more than 2.4 million chickens every week. I heard someone say the other day that they thought Bartter-Steggles feeds 1/3 of the Australian population every week. That's a lot of chicken!
